Perdekraal East Wind Farm welcomed Minister David Maynier, Provincial Minister of Finance and Economic Opportunities to site last week [21 September 2020].

In a statement issued by the Minister’s office, he said, “My visit to the Perdekraal East Wind Farm reiterated the importance of the call made 11 September 2020 to the Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Gwede Mantashe, to urgently sign and gazette the final Section 34 Ministerial Determinations which were recently given concurrence by the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa). This would be the next step in opening up the REIPPPP bid window 5 which would allow for further green and low carbon electricity supply opportunities such as the Perdekraal East Wind Farm in the Western Cape.”

Perdekraal East Wind Farm will commence its commercial operations before the end of the year, generating clean power from its 48 installed wind turbines, with a total output of 110MW.

Maynier, reiterated that the country’s renewable energy programme is providing a pipeline of clean energy projects that support development of the local supply chain, support green infrastructure and green industrialisation, thereby driving job creation and economic growth in the Western Cape, which links to the Province’s Atlantis Special Economic Zone (ASEZ), which is specifically focused on Green Tech and provides the perfect location for companies who are looking to locally manufacture renewable energy component parts.

“The Perdekraal East Wind Farm is a great example of how private sector investment in renewable energy infrastructure can not only help to mitigate the medium-term impacts of load shedding but can also create jobs and grow the economy in the Western Cape. We will continue to do everything we can to support businesses to participate in the growing green energy sector and to become more energy resilient in the Western Cape,” concluded Maynier.
