CAREER DAY EMPOWERS YOUTH |
November 2024.
A informative career day event aiming to expose Grade 9 and 11 learners from local high schools to an array of career paths, was held recently. Funded in collaboration with Perdekraal East Wind Farm, the Cape Career Exhibition Association, and the Cape Winelands District, the event provided learners with a unique opportunity to explore diverse career paths and receive valuable guidance on academic and career planning.
“This programme provides valuable guidance to our learners, helping them navigate career choices and make informed decisions about their future. Many of our Grade 10 and 11 students are still uncertain about which paths to pursue, and this programme broadens their horizons, offering insight into opportunities beyond the Koue Bokkeveld and empowering them to choose the right subjects and careers,” said Mr Jack, Skurweberg High School Principal.
Through engaging presentations, industry experts shared valuable insights into several sectors, including Creative Arts, Public Services and Education. Learners gained a realistic view of these professions, learning about daily tasks, challenges, and the rewards associated with each career path.
In addition, sessions on resume building, goal setting, and job interview preparation provided learners with essential skills that will serve them well as they transition into the workforce.
“The Career Day programme has been designed to broaden learners’ perspectives on career possibilities and guide them in making subject choices aligned with their interests and ambitions. Through exposure to various career options and personalised guidance, the learners leave with a stronger sense of direction and a clearer understanding of how to pursue their career goals,” concluded Gwynne-Lee Borcherds, Economic Development Manager for Perderkraal East Wind Farm.
