480 TURBINE COMPONENTS SAFELY TO SITE

26 February 2020

Perdekraal East Wind Farm has announced the successful completion of the transportation of all 480 turbine components.  The final loads arrived on site on 21st February having traversed the country from the West Coast of Cape Town.

“This massive logistical undertaking saw these 480 loads safely covering over 495 000 kilometres and moved an astounding 25,000 tonnes of wind turbine components,” said Christo Loots, Construction Programme Manager for Perdekraal East Wind Farm.

This 110MW wind farm began its transportation programme to the North East of Ceres, in June 2019.  It spans 3 055 hectares and will generate enough clean electricity to power over 111 000 South African homes. In addition to zero carbon emissions and reduced use of fossil fuels, the country will benefit from almost zero water consumption that is required during the generation process of Perdekraal East Wind Farm.

“We expect to reach commercial operations before the end of the year, playing our part in the country’s transition towards a renewable future, which facilitates multiple opportunities for growth and development, within areas and communities that for decades have lacked infrastructure, investment and sustainable employment opportunities,” concluded Loots.
